The summer period (July/August) is the highlight of the Gers social calendar with local village fetes which start late and finish even later! You will be treated to a feast of local produce and wine and allow an ideal opportunity to be welcomed into the community. Do not worry if your French is a little rusty, or even non existent, by the end of the evening the conversation will be flowing as much as the wine!
Added to these local fetes, there are many internationally renowned festivals. In July, Mirande hosts an amazing Country Rock festival which attract swell known artists from all over the world. August sees the equally famous ÔJazz in MarciacÕ Festival which again plays host to some of the world's most famous jazz musicians. Monleon Magnoac is the home of a Samba festival where for the weekend the whole village becomes a stage and everyone, professional or not, is encouraged to join in. One of the more unusual festivals we've been to must be the annual ÔPig FestivalÕ at Trie-sur-Baise, once a centre for all things pork based.
