About 1 hour's drive away is the ancient city of Tarbes, which was established in the 3rd century BC. Later it became an important Roman city (Tarba), becoming a centre for agriculture and commerce. Throughout its long history, Tarbes has suffered from many raids and invasions, including by Vikings, all of which offer today's visitor an enormous variety of places to visit and things to do. Naturally, being a major city (the capital of the Haute Pyrenees).
Tarbes also offers shopping and gastronomic delights. For those who's holiday would not be complete without a little retail therapy, you will be delighted by the wonderful boutiques and small shops in which you can easily lose yourself for a day, only coming out to eat, when your arms ache from carrying all those bags and when the shops close!
